The Animals of Masai Mara
Hardly anywhere else in the world will you be exposed to a diverse concentration of animals like in this 4-Days Masai Mara Safari. In this valley surrounded by majestic escarpments, open savannah, and acacia woodlands, animals are free to thrive. This reserve is globally known as the best wildlife destination in Africa.
What is most thrilling about the Masai Mara is the permanent tension in the air. Every day, the animals are in a vicious circle of life and death. The Mara predators have the freedom to choose from a well-stocked table. More often, dinner is selected from an assorted menu that includes wildebeest, impala, antelope, zebra, Thomson’s, Grant’s gazelle, topi, and eland.
Life in the reserve is much reliant on the Mara River, which permanently flows through the savannah to Serengeti National Reserve. Every day, there are hundreds of animals including hippos, giraffes, antelopes, and even lions that entirely rely on the river for their survival.
Mara Migration
From July every year, thousands of wildebeest, zebra, and antelopes escaping the dry season in Serengeti travel north to Masai Mara. For them to reach the fertile plains in Kenya, they must cross the crocodile-infested Mara River. In the river, the exhausted animals face a death trap from the slippery rocks, ranging water, and monstrous crocodiles. Those who survive the river face an onslaught from the opportunistic Mara lions waiting at the river banks. Experiencing this spectacle leaves your heart “kabooming” with excitement.
Yet, their strength is in their numbers. Those that survive must repeat the trek back to Serengeti in December in preparation for the calving season. This wheel of life goes on forever.

More about this tour
Surprisingly, the lives of Masai Mara are a true reflection of the circle of life. Most other species in the Masai Mara National Reserve are influenced by the antics of the wildebeest.
The arrival of the reserve predators heralds a time of feasting and prosperity during this time, you are most likely to witness coordinated onslaughts of Big Cats hunts. This is the best time to visit the park because of the dramatic contrast between life and death, sacrifice and survival witnessed during the migration.
